Evaluating Autauga County Basketball Without a December Crown

What school has the best basketball team in Autauga County? There is no longer Autaugaville High School, and while Autauga Academy has stepped into the county footprint, it remains a private school. With that long-standing measuring stick gone, the Autauga County Basketball Tournament, I will use the December stats to determine the "Paper Champion".
Girls: A Defensive Power vs. Offensive Firepower

Based strictly on December winning percentage, the race at the top came down to two programs: Billingsley and Prattville. Billingsley finished December at 8–1 (.889), the best mark among the county schools. The Lady Bears leaned on defense, allowing just 26.0 points per game while scoring 45.1, outscoring opponents 406–234 overall. Their +172 point differential separated them from the rest of the county. Prattville followed at 5–2 (.714), taking a different path. The Lady Lions averaged 52.9 points per game, the highest among county teams, but allowed 45.3, resulting in a +53 differential. Offensively, Prattville could stretch the floor and pressure opponents, making them a dangerous matchup for anyone.
Team | W-L | Win % | Points For | Points Against | PF/Game | PA/Game |
Billingsley | 8-1 | 0.889 | 406 | 234 | 45.1 | 26 |
Prattville | 5-2 | 0.714 | 370 | 317 | 52.9 | 45.3 |
Marbury | 0-8 | 0 | 157 | 547 | 19.6 | 68.4 |
Boys: Close Margins, Hard Lessons, Clear Leaders

On the boys’ side, December told a story of balance, depth, and narrow margins. Prattville finished December 5–3 (.625), the best winning percentage among public schools.
The Lions averaged 61.5 points per game, scoring 492 points over eight games, while allowing 56.3 per contest. Prattville consistently made enough plays late to tilt close games its way.

Marbury closed December at 4–4 (.500). The Bulldogs matched Prattville offensively at 60.0 points per game, but defensive lapses—68.9 points allowed per game—proved costly.
Billingsley endured a challenging December at 1–9. The Bears averaged 45.7 points per game while giving up 57.6, using December more as a proving ground than a verdict.
Team | W-L | Win % | Points For | Points Against | PF/Game | PA/Game |
Prattville | 5-3 | 0.625 | 492 | 450 | 61.5 | 56.3 |
Marbury | 4-4 | 0.5 | 480 | 551 | 60 | 68.9 |
Billingsley | 1-9 | 0.1 | 457 | 576 | 45.7 | 57.6 |
I know I didn’t include the Prattville Christian Academy – but that was my choice.
